How to submit a book proposal for the EFPP Book Series

The editors are interested in receiving book proposals of edited volumes, as well as books by individual authors, for inclusion in this widely internationally read, and prestigious Series.

The Series aims to encourage the sharing of psychoanalytic thought and to foster dialogue on key psychoanalytic topics, across the network of 22 member countries of the EFPP. This has resulted in the exciting international and cross-cultural flavour of the books currently published in the Series.

All book proposals must be made in English. The cost of translations of books is very high and the EFPP are able to make some limited funds available to help prospective authors or editors of Series books to meet some of these costs. We also have some limited funds for an English copy editor to 'tidy up' texts. With these practical difficulties in mind, we recommend that at least one of the author/editor/s of any prospective book, have English as a first language or are very fluent in written English.

Any book proposal should include the following information:

  • the working title of the book and the author/s or editor/s names.
  • biographical details of the author/editor/contributor/s with details of their previous publications and current and past work.
  • a synopsis of the book.
  • the rationale for writing the book and why it would fit well in the EFPP Series. Who would be interested in reading the book and how does it contribute to thought in this area of psychoanalytic thought and practice.
  • a list of the contents of the book - working titles of sections and chapters with authors, number of words for each chapter - 8-10,000 words being preferable. It is best to aim for approximately 45,000 to 75,000 words in total, including acknowledgements, introductions and references.
  • A brief summary of each chapter and if possible some sample 'draft' or completed chapters.
  • Author/editor/contributor/s should note that they must take full responsibility for considering the protection of the confidentiality of any patients discussed in the book.

Submitting the proposal

Proposals should be emailed to both Editors of the Series

Monica Lanyado (UK) - monica@lanyado.com
Didier Houzel (France) - dhouzel@hotmail.com

The Editors are happy enter into email conversations with potential author/editor/s as they work on their proposals.

Peer Review of Proposals

Proposals will be reviewed by 2 or 3 EFPP editorial board Readers and the publishers, who will jointly decide whether to accept the proposal for the Series.
