Dear colleague,
We are writing to you about the 4th Syros Workshop. As you may know, the 1st workshop was organized at the end of May 1998, the 2nd at the beginning of June 1999 and the 3rd at the end of May 2001. This event was designed to combine a) the rigorous scientific work that a meeting with limited participants and with plenty of time for discussion would permit, b) the pleasure that a good company on a Greek island at the beginning of Summer could offer. Our expectations were that such a meeting could create a working, collaborative and relaxing atmosphere and until now, it seems that we have reached our goal.
The workshop is planed to have a group of no more than 25-30 colleagues. The psychoanalyst invited speaker will present a paper and will discuss it with the group. Relative clinical material will be presented by other colleagues that will also be discussed extensively by the group. The invited speaker for this year will be Dr Imre Seczody and the main theme will be "Supervision". The meeting is planned to be held in June from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th. This means that one has to arrive to Athens on Thursday, so to be able to get an airplane or ferry boat to Syros. The meeting will have an informal character and will follow the provisional timetable that follows. We always try one of the two small groups to be French speaking.

We will start late on Friday, leaving enough time for the participants to arrive at Syros. We will leave plenty of time during afternoon and evening for swimming and leisure. The participants have to share the expenses for the invited speaker/s, some minimal administrative expenses to cover secretarial assistance during the meeting as well as post/ phone/ fax expenses. The costs will be shared among all participants and it is expected to be 110 Euro per person.
In respect to the transfer of persons from their country of origin to Athens and then to the island of Syros and expenses invoiced, please note as follows:
Air
tickets form the country of origin to Athens.
Tickets from Athens to Syros:
- boat from Piraeus (approx. 4hrs)
- power boat from Piraeus (approx. 2 ½ hrs)
- power boat from Raffina (port near Athens - Airport to Raffina (approx.
½ hrs)
- by air (approx. 25 min), (airport).
For accommodation, one will have to calculate a minimum of 40-50 Euro per night for each participant. Meals for each participant have to be expected around 25-35 Euro per day (this, of course, depends on what you wish to eat. You may find meals less expensive).
It is not possible to inform you so early for the timetable of boats and planes, as these are changing during the Summer time.
If you have to stay in Athens overnight (Thursday night), you should calculate with 60-90 Euro for hotel accommodation.
The Syros Workshop has becomes a regular biannual event, which will be held at the beginning of June.
We
hope that these 3 days will be full of exchanging and sharing ideas on
scientific issues, in a relaxing atmosphere. At the same time - as we
are only going to work half a day, it will be possible to have our holidays
on this beautiful island. Let's mix business with pleasure.

It
is understandable that as the number of participants is only limited,
we will have to accommodate the would-be-participants according to the
order in which the applications arrive.
In due time we will sent you more information about the presentations,
the accommodation and the transfer from Athens or Piraeus, to Syros. We
usually seek the assistance of a local travel agent that will arrange
your travel and accommodation from Athens to Syros and Syros to Athens
or to advice you about travelling to other places or islands, in case
you wish to prolong your stay in Greece.
